My Journey to Now: Training with Rita Catolino
I feel like I have received a belated Christmas Gift today with Georgia’s words and story. Trust me, you will be happy you took 5 minutes to read it. My new favourite quote…. “when the student is ready, the teacher appears”. Thank you Georgia for taking a chance on me….and more importantly for taking a chance on YOURSELF. xo
“2014 was a big year for me and accomplishing so many big goals. The goals I set for myself helped define who I have always wanted to be and realizing them has changed my life.
The most important aspect for me came to mind in September of 2013 with this strong feeling that I needed to take control of my fitness, nutrition, and health in a new and improved way. I had always exercised and ate fairly healthily, but I was not getting the results I so craved. A chance professional connection with Rita through my work at canfitpro made all the difference. There is a Buddhist proverb that says “when the student is ready, the teacher appears” and that is exactly what happened for Rita and I.
This goal was so important that I needed to know for sure I would achieve it. I looked at Rita’s experience and not only has she taken others like me to success, but she’s been through it herself too. Three months after Rita and I met, I felt this need to reach out and email her to train together. I knew that one action would change things. Tony Robbins says the secret to success is to first “decide, get leverage on yourself, and then take massive action”. Deciding to do Rita’s three month program was my massive action and it worked in a massive way, far beyond what the scale or tape measure dictate!
Rita is an incredibly caring person, but she has high standards—for herself and her clients—and will only work with people who will give it as much as she does; she gives it her all. I surrendered to trust Rita and went “all in”. The first couple weeks were hard with new workouts, my first ever “meal plan”, and the emotions of wanting so badly to succeed. The best part—my supportive coach was always an email away. With weekly check-ins and her kind “tough love” approach, before I knew it I was smashing goals, losing inches, and buying new clothes! In the total of seven months I had these “weight loss successes” (or as Dai Manuel so eloquently says “weight release” because losing something implies you’re going to find it again) ☺:
- Released 17.8 lbs
- Released 16.25 inches overall
- Gained 500% in self-confidence, belief in myself
- Learned how to serve my needs first so that I can better serve the needs of those around me
- Learned the roles of healthy carbs and fats, and the importance of eating regularly
Where to next?
You may wonder why there is no “before” picture like you see in most “weight loss success stories”. That is because I am proud of where I’m at today. This is me, now. I remember a time when pride was an emotion I did not wear regularly. This is who I am now and like most, I’m a work in progress.
My message to you, especially at this time of “New Year’s Resolutions” (which I proudly make every December):
Don’t wait. Start now. You’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner.
You don’t need to have a perfectly constructed goal in mind. I simply knew I could “be better”. I wanted to improve my fitness, nutrition, and sleep to get me more energy to life the live I always imagined. I never set out to lose a certain amount of pounds or pants sizes, partly because I never wanted to limit where I could go with this.
If you’re reading this it is the sign you’ve been looking for. Trust in the process, trust in Rita, and most importantly, trust in yourself! The skills Rita taught me are life skills. How to eat well for my goals whether I’m busy, traveling, in meetings all day, or at dinner out.
The balance she values makes the program and her way of coaching and training possible for real life and that is why it’s so successful.
All I would say to someone thinking about training with Rita is “why wait?” I remember thinking to myself “why didn’t I do this sooner”!When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Thank you Rita for being there for me!”
Georgia
A whole year later, and I’m just reading this now. Georgia wrote the words I have had in my head for a long time now – too long. And this student is ready, and feels she has found her teacher 🙂
I cannot wait to catch up today. Thank you for the comment and for being ready.
