It All Started With A Magazine……
“I am a believer in the universe sending me signs, signs to take action on something I have been pondering. Sometime in January I made a 2014 goal to sign up for a competition or something that would force me to train harder to get my body where I wanted to get it. I had been teaching fitness classes for a few years now and knew I needed to add heavier weights in order to tone up certain body parts but I was having a hard time committing and being consistent. I have also been a pretty good eater for years but was easily getting persuaded by the sweets and treats around me. I had downloaded many programs over the years with the intention to follow them and I never stuck to it. So I put the intention out there that when the time is right something will show up. I was weary about having to show up somewhere for training though as I was already teaching many classes per week and I knew it would be a stretch for me. So that didn’t feel right. I looked into body building competitions but as I researched it, that also didn’t feel right for me.
Then one day I opened up the CanFit Pro magazine (which I rarely read) and there was this huge article about Rita and how she trains the female client.
I kept the page open for a few days, and kept going back to it. There was something that caught my eye, something. Her mid section, her smile…something. I carried on with my week and was doing a BodyRock fitness video that I often do, and what do you know, Rita was in the new video I had just discovered. Mmmmm, a sign you think? I looked her up and she was exactly what I needed. A virtual program where I didn’t need to show up at a certain time, just on my own time. I needed to be self motivated and determined to reach my goals. Yup that was me. I was more than determined, just needed the right coach to show up, and she did. She also was a mom and had struggled with weight loss in her life so I thought she would be perfect to learn from, not just for me, but for my own clients as well. I also was at a stage in my career that I was considering doing the personal training course, but it never felt right. So I thought I would work with her to see if this is something I want to do in my own life.
I was super proud of myself as I was in 100% for this – the food plan, and the workouts on top of my classes I was already teaching. Rita took everything into account and made the perfect program for me. I didn’t miss one workout that month. I found gyms in hotels during my daughters dance competition, and found a gym while visiting relatives away from home, I was determined! Being an instructor myself, I knew consistency was the key to success and I wanted success.
I saw results immediately in a few weeks, muscles showing up that I didn’t know I had….I love saying that because it was so true. Even my kids noticed my triceps and my upper back muscles. Strangers in the local gym I was using were coming and asking what exercises I was doing to get those back muscles!!! Fun stuff!!! I asked a million questions and Rita was right there with me answering what I needed to know. I was excited with my initial results that I decided to do the full 12 weeks with her, to see where I could get to. I loved that the workouts changed each month and even some tweaking of the food plan to help me reach my goals. When I started, I had a little bit in the back of my brain that didn’t think I could achieve what I wanted, but I was sure going to try. As soon as I crushed my initial goals, I just had new ones showing up. And if you have ever set goals and achieved, you know how amazing it feels to reach them!!! Simply amazing.
I won’t lie, the food was the hardest for me. To stay consistent and eat foods that fuelled my body and also feeding my family at the same time, it was a challenge, but a challenge I have figured out through this process. I use this saying often, one you hear on the airplane… “you must put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others”. I take this to heart and fully believe it, especially for all the moms out there. I need to get my own fitness and nutrition in order before I can help others achieve their goals, whether they are my own fitness clients or my husband or my kids.
I love that this new lifestyle has given me the confidence to pursue my next endeavour… becoming a personal trainer myself! I have enjoyed teaching Zumba and weight classes for a few years now but want to step things up in my business and add personal training to the list. I realized my new passion is to empower others to make change in their own lives. I have felt so empowered after every workout. The heavy weights just make you feel strong inside and out. I feel happier as my body feels strong and nourished. For now, I have figured the food part all out with Rita’s help. How to cut the cravings, how to eat to feed my muscles before and after workouts, and how to keep my energy high, and how to maintain my weight and body where it is. Now I have new interests with food and fitness…and am pursuing those next. It’s like the roller coaster of life. You reach one goal and you easily find another one to work on. A few weeks into the program and I was feeling high energy and able to balance life a bit more. I do believe that the more you do the things you love, the more time you have for the things you want to do. It just works out that way.
The part I didn’t expect was how my bodily changes affected those around me. When I started on the fitness business years ago, I remember my goal was to inspire others to get moving. I wanted to just be the role model of fitness for those around me. I feel like it is coming true.
Thank you Rita. It’s like the experience I’ve gone through with you, and that I’m living now will just be passed forward and it feels so great! I feel so confident and I think it’s showing through in everything I do.
Rita is a real individual with real life happenings like the rest of us. I love that the messages were not always about food or fitness. Many times her newsletters discussed balance and meditation and family and slowing down and just living our best life. These are all things that I personally believe in. I practice gratitude and I am sure grateful that Rita was in that magazine that day!”
