I used to tell people to eat a full meal adhering to their goals and plan before attending a holiday party. Then while at the party, staying away from the food table and focussing on the conversation was my plan of action. The truth is, although this tactic has worked for me in the past, I now want to enjoy the celebrations with friends and family this time of year. Does this mean a full out binge? NO! It means eating all day, lighter than normal; I will go easy on my typical fruit at breakfast and other carb and fat sources throughout the day, and enjoy what the party has to offer in moderation. Tips #1-3 that I posted this past week will also help minimize the damage of a few extra calories. Try this “non-restrictive” mentality going into a party, and you may surprise yourself. Remember, a few nibbles at a holiday party won’t stray you from your goals if you are on track the rest of the time. BALANCE is key.
